By 1995, he was promoted to acting director, and in 1996, he became the full-fledged director. In this role, he spearheaded the planetarium\u2019s renovation project. Besides his scientific endeavors, Tyson authored several books on astrophysics and contributed a column, Universe, to Natural History magazine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2001, he was appointed to the Commission on the Future of the United States Aerospace Industry, and in 2004, he served on the presidential commission to implement the U.S. space exploration policy.
