Preserving a Historical Landmark

Aman has a longstanding commitment to preserving some of the most picturesque and historically significant sites on the planet. Aman New York continues this legacy with a masterful restoration project led by the company’s longtime partner, renowned architect Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston. This meticulous project has breathed new life into one of Manhattan’s most remarkable buildings, retaining its unique character and charm.
The Crown Building: A Historical Jewel

At the intersection of Fifth Avenue and 57th Street stands the Crown Building, built in 1921 during a period of rapid transformation in New York City. The Roaring Twenties marked the emergence of a new era of independence and progress, as the cityscape transitioned from low-rise townhouses to a skyline defined by grand architectural achievements.
The building, originally commissioned by businessman and philanthropist August Heckscher, was designed by the legendary architects Warren and Wetmore, best known for Grand Central Terminal. They overcame strict construction regulations of the time to create a neoclassical structure with French Renaissance elements, crowned with a copper tower.
The Crown Building’s 12-foot gilded weathervane in the shape of a rooster served as a symbol of progress until it was melted down for the war effort in 1942. Despite various transformations over the decades, the building has remained a symbol of Manhattan’s elite real estate and architectural splendor.
A New Era of Luxury

In 2015, exactly a century after August Heckscher acquired the site, the building was purchased by Vlad Doronin, founder and CEO of Aman Hotels. This marked the beginning of an ambitious project to restore the Crown Building and transform it into Aman New York. The project was completed in August 2022, unveiling a luxurious retreat in the heart of Manhattan.
The lower floors of the building remain occupied by prestigious retail brands, while the seventh floor and above are home to 83 elegant hotel suites and 22 Aman Residences. These residences offer panoramic views of Central Park and redefine urban luxury.
Unmatched Scale and Elegance
Aman New York impresses with its scale and grandeur. Its double-height atrium, 7,000-square-foot garden terrace, and suites inspired by Japanese minimalism reflect a dedication to spaciousness and sophistication. The suites, with sizes ranging from 775 to 2,770 square feet, feature 11-foot ceilings, creating an open and airy atmosphere.
A Grand Wellness Retreat
The hotel’s three-story, 25,000-square-foot wellness center is a true oasis of tranquility in the city. Guests can enjoy treatments that blend Eastern and Western traditions, including infrared saunas, cryotherapy, and acupuncture. The facilities include a modern gym, a 65-foot pool, and private treatment suites.
Aman New York offers a seamless blend of history, luxury, and cutting-edge wellness practices, solidifying its place as a crown jewel in Manhattan’s skyline.
