Launch in 1889
Barnard College opened at the end of the 19th century, namely in 1889. It operated on Madison Avenue, where up to 6 teachers could teach a relatively small number of women, up to 40. It is worth noting that Columbia University and Barnard College often cooperated. Teachers from one educational institution could teach at another. The material base was periodically supplemented and the educational program was improved.
After Columbia University moved to downtown Manhattan, college leaders also decided to relocate. The following plan was agreed upon. First, the expediency of the move was discussed, then a suitable place was chosen and bought. In 1903, Barnard got a plot with a total area of up to one acre, where the college buildings moved.
